Our Commitment – Building a Centre for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly

Carefirst is progressing well on its way to realizing the construction of the new Centre. With the strong dedication, high commitment and rigorous efforts of the Board, the Capital Campaign Committee, the Building Committee, the Project Team and the staff, we are very excited to achieve many significant and critical milestones. In 2013 May, we successfully gained the full support of the Toronto City Council for the rezoning application approval making it possible for the development of the Transitional Care Centre.  Early 2013, the full detail design and final site plan were submitted for the building permit application.  Most of the comments from the various departments of the City have been resolved and we expect to receive the notice of approval condition for construction tendering, ground-breaking and preparation of the land site within the next few months.

Furthermore, we are extremely thrilled to confirm the valuable partnership with The Scarborough Hospital to provide transitional care bed services in the patients’ recovery journey in the new Centre. In addition, we secured a few potential lease holders including physiotherapist, dentist and pharmacist to provide allied services. More vitally, the Ontario Infrastructure Loan has formally approved Carefirst for a construction loan of 12 million for the new Centre, which is targeted to be completed in early 2015.

As always, Carefirst is fully committed to continue the efforts to raise fund and secure financial support from the government and the community. We are deeply indebted to all of our wonderful service partners, passionate volunteers and generous donors whose dedication and spirit make this imperative endeavor possible for our seniors in the community.

2011-2012
The building of the Carefirst One-Stop Multi-Services Centre demonstrates Carefirst’s continuous Commitment to improve the lives of the growing senior population in the Greater Toronto Area. This new unique proposed centre, located at 300 Silver Star Boulevard in Scarborough, will offer an accessible, integrated, cultural and linguistically relevant array of health, community support and social services.

With the strong dedication, hard work and concerted effort of the Board, the Capital Campaign Committee, the Building Committee, the Project Team and the staff, we are very excited to achieve remarkable progress in the development of the capital project. We have retained CB Ross Cost Consulting as the project manager and Montgomery Sisam Architect to design and coordinate jointly with CB Ross all construction engineering services. Other related consultants including the structural, mechanical, electrical, landscape, servicing and planner have also been contracted. 60% of the detail design and drawing has been completed and the site plan and rezoning application has been submitted. In addition, we have put tremendous effort to raise funds and to secure financial support from Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Ontario Infrastructure Loan for the construction of the centre which targets to be completed by early 2014.

Most importantly, we would like to share our appreciation for our wonderful service partners, volunteers, service users and donors for their participation and generous support in this significant endeavour of the community – a centre for all-inclusive care for the elderly.
